At least eight BNP men were reportedly injured as police allegedly baton-charged during a protest over the attack on the party’s Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu in Noakhali.
The incident took place in the district’s Begumganj upazila at around 9pm on Saturday.
Police have also detained three Jubo Dal and Bangladesh Chhatra Dal activists from the spot.
They are – Md Sajib, 38, Morshed Alam 38, and Md Shimul 26, reports Bangla Tribune.
In this regard, upazila unit BNP President Kamakhya Chandra Das said they staged a peaceful protest near Chowmuhani Public Hall over the attack on BNP’s Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu and his wife.

“Later, police baton-charged the protestors for no reason. At that time, eight leaders and activists including upazila unit BNP Vice President Mofizur Rahman alias Dipu were injured,” he added.
Denying the allegations, Begumganj Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mir Jahedul Haque Rony said: “BNP workers brought out the procession without any notice. However, police did not baton-charge anyone, but detained three people from the spot.”
On Saturday afternoon. four people, including BNP’s Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu and his wife, suffered injuries after being attacked by some miscreants at Comilla’s Monohorganj upazila.
Barkat Ullah Bulu suffered a serious head injury while his wife’s arm was broken during the attack that took place on their way to Dhaka from Noakhali.
Besides, Vipulasar union unit of BNP former general secretary and former union chairman Sharif Hossain and Begumganj upazila Jubo Dal Member Secretary Mohiuddin Raju were also seriously injured.
